Composting Cats ~ A happy ending........

We were not sure what to do with the 4 kittens born in our compost barrel. The last thing we need is more stray cats in our neighborhood. Luckily, the mother decided to move her kittens to a new home somewhere in the woods. The only problem was that she only took 3 of the 4 to their new home and left one little sad kitten behind. I called the vet, friends, anyone I could think of to help us save the kitten. The vet told me how to feed it with a dropper, but I wasn't really prepared to raise a kitten. I have a slight allergy to cats, and I'm not particularly fond of them. Since my kids have failed miserably at keeping the dog fed, I knew we weren't suited to be kitty foster parents. I decided to call the local University Extension office to ask if a 4-H student wanted to raise the kitten as a project. The lady who answered the phone visited with me for a few minutes and I explained the situation. She then reluctantly mentioned that she had a barn cat with a new litter of kittens that was a very good momma. She offered to pick up the kitten and give it a try. I was so relieved and grateful for her kindness. I saw her in town later that evening and she told me that the adoption was successful. The kitten was accepted and fed by it's new mother. I was so happy to be able to report the good news to our kids.
